Scrappin’ for Life is a
Success
As reported in
our last newsletter a fund raiser was held on
February 9, 2008. It was a scrapbooking event
sponsored by Renee’s Survivor Shop. We had about
24 scrappers and 8 vendors. I believe that I can
safely report that a good time was had by all!
In addition to a good time $725 was raised to
help off set the costs of our 2008 retreats. If
you missed it, you missed a good time.
Pink Hopper
Fund Raiser
Many thanks go
to Robert Stoynoff of South Bend, Indiana for
his donation of eight dozen pink hopper flies
unique to Reeling and Healing in memory of his
friend’s wife, Lori Ann DeQuoy who died in
December 2007 of breast cancer. Thanks to Bob’s
generosity we raised almost $500 thru the sale
of these hoppers.
Thanks also go
to the Kalamazoo Chapter of Trout Unlimited and
the St. Joseph River Chapter of the Fly Fishing
Federation for their donation of over 1,500
flies for Reeling and Healing to give to our
participants at the retreats.
Reeling and
Healing Receives Grant
Reeling and
Healing is proud to announce that for the second
year in a row we are the proud recipients of a
grant from the Northwest Ohio Komen Foundation
of $1,500. The grant will be used to provide
scholarships for our retreats. Recipients of
grants were treated to a luncheon sponsored by
the Heidtman Corporation on April 1 (no fooling)
at the Toledo Club. The luncheon was hosted by
Chris Peterson of Channel 13, Toledo, OH.
Reeling and
Healing Again to Receive Proceeds From Pollyball
Tournament
Reeling and
Healing, Inc. and The YWCA’s Breast Cancer
Awareness Center in Toledo, Ohio will again be
the recipients of the proceeds of the
Annual
Polly Hylant Tracy Pollyball (volleyball)
Tournament. The 17th annual event
will be held on August 16 in downtown Toledo. An
exciting addition to this event is Pollypalozza,
which is an evening event. It will feature
Pro-women volleyball games, food vendors from
the Toledo area, bands and dancing.
We will need a
lot of volunteers to make this event a success.
So mark your calendars now and watch for future
announcements on how you can volunteer for this
event.
Volunteers Needed
We
are continuing to look for people to help us in
the following areas: fund raising, finding
participants, massage therapists, nurses, fly
tyers, retreat directors, grant writers,
newsletter editor, goodie bag donors, booth help
at fly fishing shows, etc.
If something
appeals to you or if there is something else
that you think you might be able to help with,
please call Judy Walle at 419-536-2469 and
volunteer. You can help make the organization
even more successful and help us grow.
We need you!
If you were a
retreat volunteer in 2007 and want to volunteer
in 2008, please let Judy know which date(s) you
are interested in ASAP.
And the Winner Is:………..
Mike
Matuszewski is the lucky winner of the beautiful
bamboo fly rod made and donated to us by Bret
Reiter. Mike is a member of the Michigan Fly
Fishing Club. I understand that Mike has already
fished with the rod and he caught fish! His name
was drawn on Opening Day of Trout Season in
Michigan at Gates AuSable Lodge. Congratulations
Mike! Thanks also go to all who bought raffle
tickets. We were able to raise over $2,000.
